Klutz Sew Mini Treats Book and Activity Kit Review

Make Klutz Sew Mini Treats for Craft Month

Thank you Klutz, a division of Scholastic for sponsoring this post. Hands on learning and a healthy-dose of fun!

Children are born with vivid imaginations. As they grow older it’s important to continue to cultivate their imagination. It is when kids imagine that they are able to contemplate new and amazing inventions. It is also where creativity and curiosity are birthed. Sir Ken Robinson, an international advisor on education and arts states that ‘Imagination is the source of all human achievement.’ I believe, crafting can help kids develop these skills. March is Craft Month and the Klutz Sew Mini Treats Book and Activity Kit is the perfect way to celebrate as it’s a reinforcement tool to get their creative juices flowing.

If you have preteens it can be hard finding activities they enjoy that are age-appropriate. Lately, my 12-year-old daughters have rejected anything that remotely seems “babyish.” I understand that they want to be self-sufficient. Surprisingly, the Klutz Sew Mini Treats Book and Activity Kit sparked joy in their eyes and brought them excitement.

As a parent, knowing that my children were completely engaged in an activity that did not involve a screen and meant the world to me. The kit provides several tutorials. It also teaches them simple problem solving skills.

Is Sewing Experience Needed?

Last year, I put both of my daughters in a sewing class. One of their first assignments was to make a pillow that closed with a zipper. One child completed the assignment and was ready for whatever came next. The other one was nervous and uneasy using a sewing machine and did not complete the assignment.

When my daughter saw the word sew on the Klutz box, the uneasy feeling returned and she stated to me that she was incapable of sewing. Then she looked at the box and saw that it was geared towards children ages 10 and up. With the encouragement of her sister, she agreed to give it a try. Seeing that she would only be hand sewing, I was certain that she’d be able to complete these crafts.

Benefits of Crafting With the Klutz Sew Mini Treats Book and Activity Kit

Challenge accepted, she sat down with her sister and started completing each step one-by-one. She started with the egg, mainly because she thought that one would be easier to complete. By step 3, when it was time to weave the needle all the way through the felt, she was completely captivated and surprised by how satisfying and simple hand sewing could be. Ironically, she turned to me and said “This brings me so much joy and peace, I could do this all day.” It sounds too good to be true, but it really happened.

Thankfully, the activity completely restored her confidence as she saw the egg and later carrot take shape. Bingo, I knew we had a winner and crafting hasn’t been the same in my home since. Even if a person has never sewn before this is a great way to get started.

I want parents to know that craft month is a great time to connect with your kids offline. Klutz Sew Mini Treats Book and Activity Kit and are great ways to spend time with your kids and take a break from the screen.

Would I Recommend the Klutz Sew Mini Treats Book and Activity Kit?

I’d absolutely recommend the Klutz Sew Mini Treats Book and Activity Kit, it’s perfect for reluctant kids who want to sew and also eager kids who may be able to create more complex things. This craft is definitely better suited for older kids who can use a needle or sharp scissors. However, if parents want to take over those parts, then younger kids can enjoy the craft as well. One tip I’d also recommend is to store unused supplies in a bag that closes well.

Overall, the best part about the sew mini treats book and activity kit is:

  • No sewing experience is needed.
  • The instructions were clear for children to follow.
  • The book provides tons of different ideas.
  • The only extra supplies needed were a marker (optional to help cut out the patterns) and sharp scissors (dull kid’s scissors won’t cut the felt properly).

After my kids were done creating their first mini treats that said to me, I want to do this more often and I want you to buy more Klutz kids crafts. If Klutz can convert my kids into fans, then I’m happy to pass on their positive experience to other families.
