My girls and I enjoyed watching Smurfs: The Lost Village. Thanks Sony Pictures Entertainment for allowing us to have advanced screening tickets and for the awesome printable activities. The movie was perfect for my family because it was all about loving yourself just the way you are. As we watched the movie, I saw my daughters’ eyes get larger as the scenes changed. For one, she held her hat in her hand like a shield. and put it just a little under her eyes so she could peep through and see, she was nervous. The adventure made her adrenaline rush as she watched the 4 smurfs (Brainy, Hefty, Clumsy, and Smurfette) travel through the forbidden forest and encounter new unknown obstacles.
As a parent, I enjoyed the positive message of the movie. I also really liked the animation and the celebration of feminine power presented in the film. Recently, I’ve been hoping to instill values about self-appreciation with my girls. While, I don’t think a person can come away with renewed self-confidence after just one film, I do believe that over time, see positive images that you can relate to will help increase a person’s confidence.
Even if you don’t have a house full of daughters, Smurfs: the Lost Village, has characters that boys can relate to and admire as well. For instance, Brainy is inventive and witty. Hefty is strong and confident, and Clumsy eventually learns what he is good at. Towards the end seeing Clumsy come into his own, was really special. In my heart I was cheering for him.
Overall, Smurfs: the Lost Village is a wonderful family movie. It does have magic but it’s not weird or confusing. The forest was scary for one of my girls, but it had scenes that were funny that helped break up the dark unknown. Please remember to check out my daughter’s smurf craft using Perler beads, and also enter my giveaway for a Smurfs: the Lost Village prize pack.
