Selling Your Home? Keep these 5 tips in Mind

Home selling tips

The interest rates for mortgage loans are at amazing lows, so now may be a good time to buy or sell your home. If you are thinking about selling your home here are a few tips that will help spark people’s interest. Remember buying a home is one of the biggest investments that most people make in their lives. So following these tips will help make the process smoother for you as well as buyers who come to view your home.

Step #1 Remove all clutter

When a potential buyer enters you home and sees clutter, it gives the person the impression that your home doesn’t have enough space. It may even scare potential buyers away who may envision themselves in that same place with cluttered rooms in about two or three years down the road. Therefore, it is especially important to keep closets and crevices neat and clean so they look organized and inviting. Remember the majority of your home will be inspected by buyers.

Avoid clutter by doing the following:

Before you put your home on the market, please de-clutter, so that your home will look spacious. You may even need to rent a storage unit if you do not already have another place to put your items.

2. Clean each room

Treat your home as if you were having a revered celebrity come by to visit. Only let your best be revealed, because your home is a reflection of you. If your walls are dirty, clean them. If your refrigerator is dirty, clean it out.

When in doubt, hire a cleaning service

If you don’t have the time or expertise to clean your home the way it should be cleaned before potential buyers arrive, this is the prime moment to hire someone else to clean it for you.

3. Repair broken items

If there is something in your home that does work, please take time to have it fixed or removed. Would you buy a home that looks like things are in disrepair? Probably not, so keep this in mind when you’re selling your home. Homes show better when things look great.

Tip

You may not want to buy something that is top of the line or unique to your taste. Just purchase replacements that are reasonable.

4. Remove family photos

Yes, it is very hard to imagine living in a home if your family photos are perched on the mantle or walls. When potentials residents enter your home, they are diligently trying to imagine themselves in the space. By removing the photos, you will help make this process easier.

Tip

Decorate but leaved the personalized ones in the drawer. Think neutral!

5. Leave the house

It is very difficult to truly explore and look around your home, if you remain in the house. It feels uncomfortable to a potential buyer and may cause you to lose the sell. If you don’t feel comfortable, have your agent sit-in for you. If a buyer wants to meet you to talk about the house that’s different and should be arranged at a different time.

Remember, don’t take the experience personal. This is one time when potential buyers have every right to be picky. They are investing and trying to make a wise decision. By following these tips you will help and not hinder the process.
