I recently learned about a new natural sweeteners: Yacon Syrup. Yacon syrup is a healthy natural sweetener that is also a natural source of prebiotics. Other natural examples of prebiotics are: bananas, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, yams, asparagus, onions, garlic, etc.
What is Yacon Syrup?
The Yacón is a peruvian plant found in South America. It is also known as the peruvian ground apple. The syrup is extracted from the tubular roots of the plant (Source).
How does it taste?
Yacon syrup smells like sweet melted caramel, but tastes like black strap molasses. It tastes like it could be rich in iron. If you like molasses then you may like the yacon syrup. The syrup is a thinner liquid than molasses so it’s easier to use.
How have you used it?
The bottle suggests, 1 tsp 3 times a day. The first day I used it, I tried it straight, but I prefer to take it within a smoothie or within my herbal tea. I also tried the syrup in my morning oatmeal, but I needed something a little sweeter.
Dr. Oz’s website has two great healthy Yacon recipes that I like.
Did you lose weight?
Being healthy is one of my top priorities. I used the syrup for about two-weeks and I didn’t necessarily notice weight loss; however, I immediately noticed that I went from eating three large meals a day to only needing two. I also noticed that the syrup helped detox my body. After taking the syrup, it consistently had a cleansing effect on my digestive system. So, I will continue to use it and I will update this post after I finish the bottle. In my update, I will share my weight at the beginning of using the products and then my weight once the bottle is complete.
