Massanutten Resort – So Much to See and Do While Visiting

The Best of Massnutten Resort in VA(1)

Oh, the wonders that await you at Massanutten Resort! I really do mean it. We’ve only been back home a few days and my husband and children are still singing its praises. My 3-year-old son was in tears, refusing to exit the car until he received confirmation that we were going to the WaterPark. He wouldn’t even let me unbuckle him from his car seat. Too funny, but I was certainly sympathetic to his request. Truth be told, I wanted to go back too. The WaterPark at Massanutten is almost like an amusement park. We stayed and played for 8 hours, and the children were still not ready to leave.

So Much to Do While Visiting Massanutten Resort

There’s so much to do, so much to do! We stayed at Massanutten for a week and still felt like there was much more to experience. Whether you stay for a couple of days or for a week, you will wish you had more time. It’s very peaceful and still. The rolling mountain hills make such a wonderful backdrop for all of the fun and relaxation to be had.

Hiking Trails

There are several hikes you can take. There’s even guided hikes if you are a little wary of going out on the trails alone. We took a family hike when we first arrived. It was spectacular. The trees, the plants, the fresh mountain air. It was all so serene, with the sunlight filtering through the leaves as we watched squirrels and birds frolicking in the woods. My husband’s parents took a guided hike during the week and found their guide to be quite knowledgeable about the area and Appalachian history.

Family Friendly Fun and Adventure at Massanutten Resort

Pony Rides

The younger crowd can enjoy a pony ride and the petting farm (there was a peacock!), while a 1 hour horseback ride through the mountain is better suited to older visitors. Our two girls really enjoyed the pony ride. Our 5-year-old is obsessed with horses right now and she was overjoyed at getting to ride a horse. She sat up like a professional and patted the pony’s neck. She’s very petite and her feet didn’t reach the stirrups, so the handler kept her hand on her calf the entire time she rode. This was my oldest’s first time riding a horse, and she loved it too. She was a little nervous, but the handler was very reassuring and helped make her more comfortable. Being so close to nature was soothing and therapeutic. Watching our children thrive in the environment made me happy.Family Friendly Fun and Adventure at Massanutten Resort in VA

If you purchase an Activity Pass (Discover or Adventure), you’ll be able to get a serious bang out of your buck. There are some pretty awesome perks to purchasing passes, both on and off Massanutten property. The Adventure Pass allows for 1 free WaterPark admission and 50% off additional admissions, 1 round of golf or 2 large buckets of range balls, a Brewery Tour, Wine Seminar, Tuesday and Wednesday shows, plus unlimited Resort Yoga, tennis and racquetball equipment, Zumba and more. It also allows you 50% off of arts and crafts classes, Luray Caverns, spa classes and other discounts on and off the resort. You can also upgrade your Adventure Pass to include unlimited golf greens fees if you’re an avid golfer. The Discovery Pass is similar, but it doesn’t include WaterPark admission, the Brewery tour or Wine Seminar. And if you’re at Massanutten strictly for the picturesque golf course, the Golf Pass is sure to make you smile. Choose between a 3-round or 5-round pass and you’ll also receive discounts on the golf simulator, lessons, and more.

Yoga

I found that our passes were quite useful. We took advantage of the unlimited yoga (a practice I plan to continue) and half off arts and crafts. My husband enjoyed the Brewery Tour with his brother and father and I learned a lot at the Wine Seminar. I was able to pick a lavender infused wine with confidence from the nearby lavender farm. The smell of the lavender as I pulled the door open was intoxicating! I also fully enjoyed the Learn About Lavender session given at the resort by the owner of the lavender farm. Did you know that lavender isn’t always purple? There are also pink and white varieties.

Massanutten Resort WaterPark

WaterPark

Just as much fun as the award winning WaterPark, is the Family Adventure Park (also part of the activity passes). There’s tubing, which we found to be BIG fun (there’s even a smaller version for smaller riders). The ride down the mountainside was exhilarating and refreshing on such a hot day. The obstacle course allowed our big girl a chance to flex her muscle and get her American Ninja Warrior on (she loves that show). And the Gem Mining was another thing that all of us enjoyed. We found plenty of rose quartz, pyrite, clear quartz, amethyst and other energizing stones. You’ll also find zip lining, a climbing wall with varying difficulties and bounce houses at the Family Adventure Park.
