Massanutten Resort is Right for Your Family, Here’s Why

The list of reasons Massanutten Resort is right for your next family vacation is quite lengthy, so I’ll just give you the top seven reasons. Massanutten is nestled in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains—this place is nothing short of amazing! The views are stunning and even the air and water sings the praises of these rolling green hills. There are so many things to do here, so many fun things to see and experience. With such a wide range of activities and lodging options, I can’t think of one reason not to visit.

Massanutten Resort in Virginia offers fun for the entire family. It's a great place to enjoy your vacation

Massanutten Resort Is Fun For The Entire Family

This may come as a surprise to you, but this is our first ever, family vacation. We are a family of six now, our oldest being 10 and our youngest is 16 months old. Massanutten had something for everyone and plenty of fun activities the whole family could enjoy together. We truly and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I honestly can’t complain about anything. Massanutten is just that cool. This really was the best place for my family to take our first vacation together. We enjoyed playing at the playground that was right across the street from our condo, playing Bingo, arts and crafts, swimming and everything else.

1. The condos are like a home away from home.

We stayed in the Woodstone Meadows Condos. I knew there would be a kitchenette, but I was flabbergasted at the fact that we had a full size kitchen, complete with utensils, pots and pans, a buffet range and griddle, plates and more. A full sized refrigerator, cabinets, microwave oven, toaster oven, blender, coffee maker, can opener, and dishwasher. Now, I don’t have a dishwasher at home so this convenience made my day! I was literally dancing in the kitchen. There is a sofa (which is also a pull-out sleeper), loveseat, armchair and ottoman and a dining table that seats 6. There’s also a shared washer dryer combo and two balconies. My family truly felt at home. If you opt for the hotel, you will have a refrigerator, a balcony, 2 queen size beds or 1 king and a sleeper sofa, and a sitting area. As homey as the lodging is, you won’t want to stay indoors too much. There’s just so much to do.

2. The Waterpark is super-dee-duper

Although my youngest three didn’t meet the height requirement for the waterslides, there was still plenty of fun for them. There are several smaller slides that are just as fun as the larger slides for younger children and the not so adventurous adult. There’s even the cutest frog slide in the baby area. My youngest was in love with that little slide. If you’re visiting with an infant, there are several jumpers that are set in the water that allow them to experience the water without being held. Gentle sprays of water, similar to that of a sprinkler and less than two feet of water make this the perfect spot to relax with your youngest family members. Massanutten’s Waterpark is both an indoor and an outdoor facility, so even if it’s raining there’s plenty of fun to be had. My respiratory allergies usually can’t take indoor pool facilities—they’re usually poorly ventilated and make my eyes and lungs burn. But not here! I was pleasantly surprised to find that the chlorine was not so strong as to choke me to death. Outside there is a long slide with multiple declines, a wave pool that reaches a depth of 6 feet, a fountain park for younger visitors (my oldest son was glued to the cannon shooter here), a lily pad crossing and water basketball. My husband said that the three tube water slides were a blast, and faster than he expected. My oldest daughter rode them multiple times and came back with the biggest grin on her face. I was also surprised at their commitment to safety. Lifeguards seemed to rotate every 20 to 30 minutes and there are racks full of life vests of all sizes available to use (free of charge) as long as you are in the waterpark.

3. Nature

Massanutten is nothing short of beautiful. You can hike, take a leisurely stroll, explore vineyards, the Nature Center, petting farm and more. There’s lots of wildlife around (deer, bears, groundhogs, cranes, geese, etc.) and being able to commune with them was really rewarding. I made time for a few tree meditations and plenty of deep breathing. I also saw people fishing in a couple of the resort’s ponds. While hiking Kaylor’s Knob Trail we came across a couple of deer bounding off at hearing us coming and a black bear. The sky was splattered with so many stars, so many of the constellations that we studied in our unit on stars this summer were pretty easy to pick out. I was able to pick out Scorpius and my oldest found both the Big and Little Dipper.

4. Location. Location. Location

The resort is on the mid-Atlantic eastern coast. It’s a fairly reasonable drive from most eastern locations. It was less than a 2 and a half hour drive from where we live in Maryland. My brother-in-law and his family also drove down from New Jersey, about a 5 hour drive. I saw license plates from Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and even California. The views are breathtaking. Massanutten is actually a residential area as well, so you can see beautiful homes tucked in the hillsides as you travel around the resort.

5. Tons of Activities

There’s never a dull moment, unless you want there to be. There are so many activities to engage in. You can even fill your down time with something to do. There are arcades, gyms, a spa facility, restaurants and loads more. You can golf, swim, kayak, attend live shows, and so much more. I enjoyed taking the children to the Birds of Prey show at Mountain Cruisers while my husband, his brother and his father were on the Brewery Tour. We got to see a Lanner falcon up close. Bingo at Hideaway Lounge was successful and the bracelet one of my girls made has become a prized possession.

Massanutten Resort in Virginia even has a Kid's Club where you can drop your kids off for adult time.

Massanutten Resort has an Onsite Kids’ Club

When it’s time for adulting, your children aged 3 to 12 have something to do. You’ll be able to have a spa day, attend the Brewery Tour, the Mixology Mixer and other activities without having to split your attention. While at Kids’ Club activities, they’ll get to do a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, play games and even learn something.

Open Year round

Massanutten is a four season resort. This means that there is something fun and exciting to do no matter the weather. Skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, fishing, river adventures, indoor and outdoor pools and so much more. You can enjoy the best that each season has to offer.
