Learn more about Museum Day Live 2016

Over 500 museums across the country are having special Museum Day Live events Sat., March 12, 2016. March is officially Women’s History Month so many of the activities are especially geared towards females. We love museums because they help foster imagination, expression, wonder, history, innovation, creativity, and more. Some of our favorite family memories have been made at local museums. Museums are some of our favorite field trips. So read on and learn about some of the museum programs going on in the Washington DC area.

WHY MUSEUM DAY LIVE?

History of Museum Day Live

On Saturday, March 12, 2016, the White House and the Smithsonian Institution, together with hundreds of cultural institutions across the country, will celebrate a nationwide campaign to reach women and girls in under-served communities entitled Museum Day Live!  Held during Women’s History Month, this event will encourage all people, and particularly women and girls of color, their peers and their families, to explore their nation’s museums, cultural institutions, zoos, aquariums, parks and libraries which will offer free admission for the day.

Museums are of great social value because we have the opportunity to inspire and engage diverse audiences. We understand the importance of telling inclusive stories so that young people of all backgrounds see themselves represented in our exhibitions and programs.  I hope you will join us on March 12 and help us celebrate Museum Day Live!

What will be offered?

Museum Day Live will offer free admission to some museums; however, many special events will require a ticket. (*Also please note in the DC metro area, even though admission is often free, parking usually isn’t). To learn more about participating venues and the events pictured below visit: the official Museum Day Live website. This year the programs are amazing! In fact, there will be special programs and events at the museum specially geared toward young women from undeserved communities.
