Happiness is About Perspective

Are you angry at the way life is going? Are you mad at your circumstances and feel that you are receiving less than the best you deserve? Sometimes, we look at our lives and feel disappointed, disgusted even. Recently, I have felt emotionally angry. In my mind, I tallied all the things that were not going as I had hoped and then how I felt that my “goodness” was being punished. Once, the thought of “goodness” came into my mind, I immediately, realized that there is no one good but the Lord. Seriously, our “goodness” is but as filthy rags. Isa 64:6 came into mind which states “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”

Meditation and Helping Others Promotes Good Health

If you are feeling stuck and unhappy, stop focusing on yourself and the issues that are taking place and help others. Leave your corner of worries and pity and lend your time to someone who needs a helping hand. The “Biology of Kindness” a Time magazine article reports about a study that suggests that meditation alone does not help us feel happier. It is important for us to connect with others, thinks positively, and also meditate.

Fredrickson [professor of psychology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and the lead researcher on the meditation and stress study] says, “We’ve had a lot of indirect clues that relationships are healing. What’s exciting about this study is that it suggests that every [positive] interaction we have with people is a miniature health tune-up.” Being a good friend, and being compassionate toward others, may be one of the best ways to improve your own health.

I like to think that the meditation comes first, and then reaching out to others, is putting those thoughts of calmness and peace into tangible practice where we can help someone else feel joyous. By doing so our heath and happiness increases. Thus, by bringing joy and cheer to others we help ourselves. happy-quotes-about-love friends happy-love-quotes-inspiring-picture

Happiness Has a Lot to Do With Perspective

If we want to have satisfaction in life, our attitude about our life makes a huge difference. Acknowledging your blessings daily is self-soothing. Frankly, your happiness can only be determined by you. It cannot be measured by others thoughts about your happiness, the decision is solely up to you. Remember, that regardless of what you’re facing “Positive emotions are the “fuel” for resilience” (Fredrickson).

Overall, remember that you control your own happiness. Although personality and circumstances play a part in your happiness, it’s what you think in your mind that has the greatest effect on your health and positive emotions. Tell yourself everyday, I choose to be happy because…
