2015 Washington Auto Show: Chevrolet Designing Cars for Tomorrow

Every year I look forward to the Washington Auto Show. I think it’s a great opportunity to see what’s new and learn from people who are very knowledgeable about cars. This year’s Washington Auto Show wowed the attendees with over 700 vehicles; fast cars, sleek new designs, and innovative technology.

When I walked onto the showroom floor I immediately smelled the new car scent that permeated the room. Instantly, I knew my day would be filled with intrigue and excitement. Attending a car show will take you out of your comfort zone and help you develop a greater appreciation for cars you might not have considered before.

Luxury meets Sustainability

One of the cars that really stood out to me this year was the Chevy Volt. Ever since I was a child, I have been fascinated by conserving energy. In fact, Chevrolet’s new 2016 Chevy Volt, is everything I could have imagined and more. In the past when I thought about electric cars, I associated them with being boxy, slow economy cars. But now you don’t have to sacrifice, style, safety, or luxury for a chance to enjoy one of the most eco-friendly cars on the market.

There are so many features that buyers will love about the Volt. My top favorites are:

  1. Extended range. It’s an all-electric vehicle, which means that it has a generator that supports the battery and uses a small amount of fuel. The new improvements allow this plug-in car to travel about 38 miles with a single charge. It also recharges it while breaking and uses reserved energy for local trips.
  2. Cost savings. One of the best features about electric cars, is that the cost of  gasoline is greatly reduced (the manufacturer estimates that gasoline for the new Chevy Volt will cost its owners about $950/yr) If you want to calculate your average fuel costs for the year you can use this site. The best part is that you can plug your car into a regular outlet to recharge its battery. In addition, the 2016 Chevy Volt doesn’t need premium gas and the originals owners of the vehicle qualify for electric vehicle tax credits. So if you are looking for a gift that keeps giving, this is one car to seriously consider.
  3. Sustainability improves. You no longer have to sacrifice sustainability and forgo luxury features. Instead, now with the 2016 Volt you can have both with cool features like heated front and rear seats (which are awesome on cold mornings) and, XM Satellite Radio.
  4. Safetly improves. State of the art safety features which includes:

* On-site Safety – Volt automatically shuts off the fuel pump, unlocks the doors and turns on interior and hazard lights to maximize visibility and safety.
* Lane Keep Assist – Lane Keep Assist uses sensors to warn you when you’re unintentionally drifting from your lane and gently helps you steer the vehicle back into the lane if you don’t take action.
* Automatic Crash Response – When the air bags deploy, built-in sensors can automatically alert an OnStar Advisor, who is connected to your Volt to see if you need help.
* Rear Cross Traffic Alert – Rear Cross Traffic Alert uses radar sensors to monitor traffic behind you and uses the standard rear vision camera to visually warn you of those vehicles, like when you’re backing out of your driveway or parking space.
* Automatic Front Braking – The Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Front Braking systems use camera technology to alert you to slowing vehicles in your path, and even apply the brakes to help avoid a collision.

Check out Chevy’s Volt 2016 commercial and watch as this car glides beautifully down the road, it’s a whole new generation of automotive ingenuity.

The entire day was a wonderful experience. I left the show feeling empowered and much more knowledgeable about which cars are the most sustainable, comfortable and the best fit for my lifestyle.

Attending the Auto Show on Press Day gave me a unique opportunity not only to enjoy the cars, but also meet women in the automotive world, experts, bloggers, and car owners. Overall the experience left me with 3 key takeaways that will help guide my future car purchases.

  1. Melanie Batenchuk told us, “When buying a car , women do your research! Know your budget and stick with it!”
  2. Tori Barnes advised “Women when buying a car go sit in the car and drive it! Be engaged!”
  3. Britta Gross told us to “Put electric Vehicles on your list to check out. Stunningly quiet, not jerky, no vibration.”

With this knowledge I can save on my next car and know that it is the right fit for me and the world I live in.
