Books that Kids and Parents can Enjoy Together (Preschool through Elementary School)

I am blessed that my kids love to read, and even more blessed that we have plenty of time to read books together. Below I am going to share some of their favorite stories with you. These books are for preschool and elementary age children.

Dory Story

The first on the list is: Dory Story By Jerry Pallotta. The story has the most beautiful vivid illustrations. Reading the story itself, is like taking a ride with Danny as he rides out to see. The ending is truly the best and I think both parents and children a like will enjoy it.

As a parent I loved that the book also gave kids a simple marine biology lesson. It helps children understand the circle of life for some sea creatures from phytoplankton to the largest animal in the world: the great blue whale. Be prepared for your children to be totally engaged and captivated. This is one book my children love to read to us, so the language is great for a young child starting to read as well.

The Magic School Bus Series

Finding books that entertainment both parent and child can be difficult, but I have found some books that we can all enjoy. If you as a parent love reading, your child will see the love you have and develop their own affection for books on his or her own. Next we love to read the Magic School bus book series. These book are also for preschool to kindergarten aged children.

As a child I watched the show that came on TV called magic school bus and it helped peek my interest in science. The books fascinated me back then and are just as enjoyed as I read the series with my children. The books are great because they help children learn more about nature, the human body, and science on many different types of levels by exploring from the inside out. The books are great for early readers and asks questions at the end to help encourage reading comprehension.

Amelia Bedelia By Peggy Perish

Totally humorous. Amelia Bedelia is an innocent smart-alack who unknowingly takes every word and phrase literally. The books are comical and a part of the I Can Read Book Collections. The books help parents give parents a lot of material to create dialog around what Amelia Bedelia should and should not be doing.

The subjects are everyday topics that have a funny spin. I started reading Amelia Bedelia stories with my children when they were 3 and it helped grab their attention. The books can be considered a little long for a 3 year old to read on his or her own but the words are simple enough if you would like your children to practice having a longer attention span. One of my children’s favorites in the series is Amelia Bedelia Goes Camping and . Both Peggy and her husband Herman Perish authored this large collection stories for children.
