Cooking with Kids: Chocolate Chip Cookies

I don’t let my children eat sweets other than fruit often, but sometimes it is nice to enjoy a treat together. I love how they light up and think it is such a special moment when they can have a sweet treat. Here is a vegetarian chocolate chip cookie recipe we tried and enjoyed.

Ingredients:

  • 2 3/4 cup flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 stick of butter (or Soy Butter)
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 1 tsp fine salt
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg (Or an egg substitute of your choice)
  • 12 oz Chocolate chips (or Carob Chips)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Prepare the cookie dough by mixing the dry ingredients (the flour, salt, and baking soda) in a large bowl.

Next add mix the wet ingredients together. Add the butter, brown sugar, honey, vanilla and egg. Wisk the ingredients together and then add the flour and baking soda mixture. Then, add the chocolate chips. Form your cookie dough with wet hands so the ingredients will not stick to you or use an ice-cream scoop. Next put the cookies on a greased cookie sheet.

Bake for 10 – 15 minutes at 350 degrees until the edges of the cookies are golden brown.
