Guest Post: Start a New Decade With a Better You
Posted on April 3, 2012 | 2 CommentsIt suddenly struck me as I enjoy the last year of my twenties: I’m going to be 30! Strangely enough, I’m actually excited and almost impatiently waiting to step into my next decade of life. I know other women aren’t quite so enthusiastic about this milestone as I am, but they’re not looking at turning 30 (or another year older) as a chance to better themselves like I am. In my 30s, I see the things that hold me back from fulfilling my potential far behind me. I see a better me. So, to help me make my vision my... -

Double the love. At first having twins is hard work. When you bring your little ones home for the first time it is overwhelming, but once you get the hang of it, you have the double hugs, kisses, and... -
Why I Decided To Sponsor a Child Through World Vision
Posted on November 5, 2011 | 2 CommentsOne of my earliest memories is of a little postcard that my mother cherished on her nightstand. “Mommy, is that me?” I said at the age of 3. “No,” my Mom said. “But it looks like me,” I continued. “Yes, it does. This little girl reminds me of you.” mom replied. The dark honey-colored little girl, with short kinky hair. A big belly and a big smile holding an empty bowl in front of her was a child from Somalia. We looked like we could be twins. The caption above the picture said something like, feed the hungry, save their... -

Happy Mother’s Day
Posted on May 8, 2011 | No CommentsDedicated to my Mom who taught me that perfection isn’t always necessary, but LOVE is. “Because of You I Fly Your love for me cannot be matched, your care and selflessness will never be forgotten From you I learned true devotion. You taught me to walk by holding my hand steady You taught me to talk when my little voice was ready Because of you I now soar, over mountains, clouds and storms. I fly above the hurdles of life that could take me captive. My wings lift me and thrust me forward, some risk I take effortlessly and glide... -
5 Reasons Why a Happy Marriage is Great!
Posted on April 28, 2011 | 2 CommentsI would like to highlight 5 reasons why I think a happy marriage is great. Of course the reasons below are not true for everyone, but the reasons listed are true from my perspective. 1. When you love the person you are committed to, the good and bad that you encounter makes life seem much sweeter. Being married to your lover and friend continues to challenge you to be creative and grow. Each day you learn how to give of yourself and receive love and affection in multidimensional ways. 2. It is also comforting to know that you have a... -
Breastfeeding: you may struggle, but don’t give up!
Posted on February 9, 2011 | 4 CommentsWhen I decided that my husband and I should start a family, I really wanted to breastfeed. The research on the breast being the best for babies speaks for itself. As a young black mother, I was surprised by the shock from my OBGYN when I shared my desire for wanting to nurse my babies. However, the look on her face showed her approval. As I began my own personal research about breastfeeding, I came across people and articles that stated that black mothers are not breastfeeding their babies as much as other ethnic groups. Whatever the reason, I want... -
Super #Mom
Posted on January 14, 2011 | No CommentsWithout a second thought, a 29 year old mother of five comes to mind. Her children are at the center of her heart. Her love and devotion to them is infinite. She knows how to cure a cough, sooth a tummy ache, restore courage, calm the frightened, crown a princess, instate a knight, and make time for herself too. She’s young, but she is the epitome of a supermom. Her children are leaders at their extra curricular activities and in the classroom too. They are polite and compassionate to others. They adore their mother more than anyone else. Her dedication... -

Truly Thankful
Posted on August 27, 2010 | 9 CommentsGod is very gracious to me and my family. There are many obstacles and lessons that we have learned from and overcome. I can remember the days my husband and I shared before we became parents: we worked and played hard. However now, our lives are so much more fulfilled. It is hard work trying to be a “good” parent, but spending time with our little reflections is gratifying. Recently, I have watched my girls grow and learn so many new things, like how to put on their shoes, buckle themselves into their car seats, and play a DVD in... -
Summer Drain
Posted on June 21, 2010 | No CommentsIt may be unusual, but every summer with the kiss of the sun I fall into a deep stupor. I have no energy and I can only dream of the awakening of a new season. I am not much for the heat and I don’t like the skimpy summer fashion that arises as soon as the sun comes out. I don’t want my children to share my feelings so I paint a smile on my face, spend tons of time in the heat, and welcome the bugs and wet grass between my toes. -

My Mom has a knack for HONESTY. With or without tack, my mother will always give her honest opinion. 3. She taught me how to LOVE myself first, which will make it possible for others to love me too. 4. Dare to be different, she always instilled in me! My mother used to tell me before school, “Dare to be a Daniel. Take the road less traveled.”...
