New Loc Style: French Braid and Barrel Roll

So far, I’m loving You Be Natural’s Black Castor Oil Scalp Soother Ointment. After I washed my hair I used it and their edge tamer to style my hair in a french braid that ends with a barrel roll.

You Be Natural’s Black Castor Oil Scalp Soother is a hair product I use to moisturize my scalp. The oil is light, but it adds a thin coat of oil to the hair shaft, without leaving my hair feeling greasy. Also, you can apply it directly between each part or you can put some of the oil in your the palm of your hand, and massage it throughout the base of your hair.

Generally, when decided to style your hair in a french braid, it is great to begin after washing your hair. Then after you fully re-twist your hair, I recommend that you  sit under a hair dryer or allow your hair to air dry. This style is best completed after the hair is fully dry.

French Braid Loc Tutorial

What’s great about this french Braid:

  • The french braid and barrel roll takes less than 10 minutes.
  •  You Be-Natural’s black castor oil and edge tamer helps moisturize and keeps your hair in place
  • No hair pins, but a small rubber band is recommended at the end of the barrel roll.
  • It’s quick and comfortable. The fact is, many of us could think of hundreds of other things we need to be doing instead of sitting in a chair for hours getting our hair done. Thus this style one of my quick go-to hair styles because it looks like it took more time than it actually did.

It looks amazing. I’ve heard so much about castor oil for the scalp. I might have to give it a go. The braids look awesome.

    • Thanks Kemkem, I’ve been growing my locs for 11 years. I was thinking about cutting them, but I figured, I try new hairstyles instead.

Castor oil is heaven for my scalp. Next time I have my crochet faux locs in, I think I will try this style!

    • This castor oil is extremely light, nothing like the oil my grandmother use to use. I also don’t use a lot, just a little in my palm to massage throughout. @chardline_chanel_faiteau:disqus

I love your locs and that french twist is beautiful!! I have not heard of You Be Natural, so I will definitely be looking into that product line since I’m transitioning. UGH all the products out there, the chore is finding the right one for your hair. Thanks for the recommendation

    • Thank you, I agree with you that there are tons of products out there. I use one mostly, a good shampoo, but ever so often I try a new moisturizer. So far, I’m happy with the black castor because it is light and not heavy like most oils.

Super cute style. I am totally impressed that you did it all yourself. Looks fabulous!

  • You make it look really easy. I love the barrel roll. I need to see if I can do something similar on my daughters hair.

  • Jonna

Wow this style is so dope. I love the look of the wide french braid on your locs. Gorgeous!

  • Whew, more power to ya with all of that hair! The JBCO dressing oil piqued my interest; it sounds just like what my poor scalp needs. How does it smell? I may look for it when I’m home this summer.

  • Tomiko Harvey

Your hair is beautiful and I’m using black castor oil after I got braids a few months ago and it snatched my edges out but I swear that black castor has gold in it cause after 3 months of using it everyday you can’t tell my edges were gone

  • My daughter loved the video. Her hair is not that long yet however it still looked cute on her.

    • Yay!!! I’m so glad she liked it Tanya. Thanks so much for letting me know.

  • This is a beautiful style for people with locs. If you have braids you can do it too. It looks so easy.

  • Kasi Perkins

What a gorgeous style! Your locs are so long and healthy!
