Review: Blessings of Unity by Robert T Case

Blessings of Unity is Christian guide to help both spouses make better decisions together within their marriage. My husband and I read the book together. At only 138 pages, the book is a quick read. We did the couples evaluation/quiz and it was a real conversation starter. For us, the book encouraged much needed dialog regarding how we view and interact with each other. We didn’t gather new insights from what we read, but by applying the principles shared we are willing to discuss anything with each other.

I wanted to read Blessings of Unity, because unity is one area of my marriage I constantly need to work on. We have spent 11 years of marriage really learning how to love each other. Surprisingly, maintaining love within marriage doesn’t come naturally after the ceremony. Instead it takes lots of patience, listening, communication and prayer. Honestly, there were times while reading when I felt upset, because it caused me to see more of my faults and I felt like I didn’t need a reminder. In addition, the information about disunity was especially troubling to me because it is so easy for disunity to creep into a marriage. Thankfully, after reading the book, I am aware of how we can actively pursue unity within marriage. Patience and understanding really go a long way for married couples.

Recently, I have made an extra effort to listen to my husbands verbal and nonverbal cues about how he is feeling when I communicate with him. I feel like we have strengthened our marriage because we opened up and discussed important situations that were on our hearts. Additionally, the scriptures provided throughout the book, helped grant us both peace and hope for our future together. The verses also give us positive phrases that we can commit to memory and apply them or recite them when needed.

About the Blessings of Unity

(from Elevate Faith)

The Blessings of Unity offers insight and ideas for creating godly unity in our marriages centered around two key concepts:

  1. Abiding in the Vine and walking in the Spirit, and
  2. Learning and applying the concept of unity.

Unity is achieved when a man and woman strive for agreement with God by processing His Will on every decision and in every issue. Through Biblically-centered discussions of discord, division, unity, discipleship, and prayer, and through exploring Biblical examples of unity, Richard Case offers husbands and wives practical and spiritual advice for working together in unity in the Spirit so that they can more perfectly present themselves to God for his divine approval.
