Bank your Babies Cord Blood for FREE

July is Cord Blood Awareness Month. When I was pregnant with my girls I first heard about banking a babies cord blood. Cord Blood has many medical benefits that can be used to help a child later on in life. Cord blood is a rich source of hematopoietic stem cells, which have been used in transplant medicine to treat many life-threatening diseases, such as leukemia and other cancers. It is amazing how advanced science has become and how cord blood stem cells have been linked to many successful cures. If you have an opportunity to bank your babies cord blood, why not? Sure, you may not think you need it now, but your child may be able to use it in the future.

One factor that hinders some families for banking their child’s cord blood is the cost. Many families don’t see a direct need for it so it is hard for them to decide to drop about $2,000 for something they may never use. However, cord blood may be able to help a sibling as well.

I decided to bank my daughters cord blood. You can read about my experience in my post “Cord Blood Banking: Why I Did It.” The process is fairly simple and doctors and hospitals are usually compliant. The is a delivery carrier who comes to your hospital to pick up the specimen in secure packaging and transport it to the Cord Blood Bank where it will stay frozen until you request it.
