Easter is approaching and like most holidays, it is a great time of year to get children involved. 1. Visit a play or reenactment that celebrates the message of Easter.

I once visited SonRise Resurrection Pageant in Collegedale, TN on Easter. The play was amazing, it changed the way I saw Easter. In the past Easter was a holiday full of bunnies and baskets, after seeing the reenactment, I saw Easter as a celebration of the Savior. This play is mostly performed outdoors. The journey at the manger where Jesus was born.  The audience becomes a part of the play because you are able to walk through the streets that were designed to resemble biblical times. The audience is able to view the live animals, actors, and actresses who get a sense of what Jesus experienced on earth. There are many scenes that people walk through such as Jesus teaching the disciples, the last supper, Mary washing Jesus’ feet with her hair, Simon carrying the cross, and the Crucifixion. The scenes are so graphic and moving that the reenactment holds nothing back. I remember seeing so many people moved to tears. Due to the graphic death of this play I would not recommend it for children younger than 8 years old.

2.  With your Family

Easter Ideas the entire family can enjoy.

Feed the homeless, provide needy items to families or people who are less fortunate. This is a great group activity that you can do as a family, church group, or organization.

  • Start a food drive and collect nonperishable food for families or a food bank.
  • Start a drive for collecting money for a charitable organization that is important to y
ou and send or deliver the proceeds around Easter
  • Visit those who are sick and elderly and help give them some cheer.

3. Organize An Easter Egg Hunt

Going out in the community to help others is important for children to learn at an early age. Here are the steps to take to have a successful Easter egg hunt

  • Successful Easter TipsFind a location, transform it into a fun exciting place using decorations such as balloons, streamers, cut-outs,  eggs, tables. and chairs.
  • Decorate and design your eggs. You can use real eggs and color them with food coloring, but I like plastic eggs the best because you can fill the insides with a variety of different things that children enjoy like: small toys, stickers, paper messages, candy, money, etc. The egg prizes depend on the age group of the children collecting them.
  • Hide the eggs. Make sure that their are clear designated areas for the children to search. Try to make the hiding places age appropriate. Hide things in a safe place and in places that you won’t forget about, if the children were not able to retrieve them all. The older the children, the more creative and exciting you need to make it.
