Wordful Wednesday: An Artist Corner

Propterty of @aleinmuffin

When did you get started doing art? Why?

I started at a very young age.  My grandmother was a painter and I’m sure that influenced me.  Many people in my family are artistically inclined so I think it’s in the blood.

What inspires your work?

It would be hard for me to name one thing but I will say music gives me a lot of ideas.  I’ve taught myself to think on my feet as much as possible, so I pull inspiration from wherever I can whenever I can. I guess I could say people also inspire me. People that follow their dreams and people that don’t.  There are a lot of things I’d like to say and art is my “microphone”.

Did you always plan to pursue a career in art?

For some reason I started college as a business major. It just didn’t take.  Making art just comes naturally to me so I try to make a living doing what I love and what I am good at. I think its important to do something you love to do. There are many people working jobs they hate just to pay the bills. Success is more than just money, being able to do something you enjoy is a big part of success and happiness. I work as a graphic designer most of the time but recently I’ve poured a lot of time and attention into painting.  I’ve come to realize working a 9-to-5 just doesn’t work for me.

What inspired this design?

It was just a silly idea I had one day.  I have a young son, so seeing his crayons and the fact that they are still usable even after they are broken was inspiring. It’s in some ways a metaphor for life. Bad things happen to all of us, sometimes we are broken but it does not make us useless. We can still work together and do great things. A broken crayon can still produce beautiful colors.

Where can we see more of your work?

You can see more of my work at anthonyarts.com. I also have shops on zazzleEsty, and I’m selling a print onfineartamerica.com.
