Many people plan to start the New Year off right by eating healthier foods. Our diet is extremely important to overall health and well-being. By eating more whole grains we can become healthier.
Whole grains provide much needed vitamins and fiber that our bodies needs to fight off diseases and build our immune systems. John Hopkins Medicine reports that “The fiber in certain whole grains, such as oats and barley, helps reduce your cholesterol levels and may lower your risk for heart disease. Fiber also helps reduce constipation, maintain bone and muscle health and keep your immune system healthy.”
The best part of whole grains is that they can also help us manage our weight better because they are low in fat. On the food pyramid we are suppose to eat at least 6 servings of whole grains each day. (6 servings is equal to about 6 ounces).
